Sacred Heart young people hit Oscoda streets, have fun performing Random Acts of Kindness

If you were looking for Christ this past Sunday, he was hanging out with seven young people from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, performing random acts of kindness on unsuspecting Oscodans!

First on parish grounds, the kids shredded and tucked cotton balls beneath shrubs, and higher in tree branches, material for the rabbits and birds to find and make their spring nests!

Then they headed over to Family Fare and hid coins in the parking lot and near the store’s gumball machine for little kids to find. Bursting with “We are from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, can we carry your groceries to the car?” they did exactly that, then unloaded bag after bag into waiting trunks or back seats, receiving smiles and “thank yous” for their efforts.

At Burger King, they introduced themselves and named the parish, offering to buy a man whatever it was he was going to order.

A coffee. Yup, a coffee! We got off easy!

He asked for clarification on where we were from, pulled out his phone, and with a big smile and thank you posted the experience to social media. Evangelization on fire!

At Clearview Car Wash, with towels in hand, we were ready to hand dry vehicles, only to find that Saturday morning is the busy time. Not one car drove through while we were there! But like Mother Teresa we know God does not ask us to be successful, just faithful!

For these kids – it was the first time they proclaimed in a public way the faith they share – and they were intimidated! But they mustered the courage, squared their shoulders, and found comfort among friends! And Christ is smiling!

A big thank you to God for great weather, and to Family Fare, Burger King and Clearview Car Wash for accommodating us! We hope to do this again!

Special thanks to Sophia and Garrett Green, Angel Clare and the handsome indentured servant George Samra, who joined in the fun and made all the difference! You all rock!

I was not able to attend the Parish Ministry/Volunteer Fair.

What can I do?

We have heard from parishioners that they were unable to attend the Parish Ministry Fair and wish volunteer to share their God given gifts and talents.

If you were unable to attend the Parish Ministry Fair and wish to share your gifts and talents with the Sacred Heart community, there is information on the table in the Gathering Space that you can pick up to review some of the various opportunities available to you.

If you have any questions, please call the Parish Office at 989.739.9511.

“For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function,  so we, though many, are one body in Christ[c] and individually parts of one another.  Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them:[d] if prophecy, in proportion to the faith;  if ministry, in ministering; if one is a teacher, in teaching;  if one exhorts, in exhortation; if one contributes, in generosity; if one is over others, with diligence; if one does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”  (Romans 12:4-8)
